Why Railhop

European rail planning by a real traveler—not another AI agent.

AI can sketch a route in seconds. It cannot tell you which connection feels tight after a delay, or guide you when disruptions hit your corridor. Railhop is built on lived experience and up-to-date rail knowledge.

01

A real human planner

Your trip is shaped by a rail specialist—not a chatbot scraping generic advice. You get considered answers, not an automated itinerary that sounds confident but misses the details.

02

Routes from real experience

Scenic lines, interchange timings, and station choices come from routes actually traveled across Europe—not suggestions that look good on a map but fail on the ground.

03

Information that stays current

Strikes, reservation rule changes, seasonal closures, and cross-border quirks are checked against what is happening now—not what worked six months ago in a training dataset.

04

Human judgment when plans change

When a delay, missed connection, or disruption hits, you reach someone who knows your trip—not an AI reply loop guessing at the next step.

The challenge
Michal wanted a route that felt memorable, scenic, and manageable across Scotland, France, Switzerland, and Cinque Terre — without the usual risks of complex cross-border train travel or getting stranded if something unexpected happened.
The solution
Railhop designed a carefully planned itinerary including the Bernina Express through Switzerland, calculated the cheapest suitable ticket option, and structured the connections so the trip stayed practical and safe even if delays or disruptions occurred.
Smart adjustments
Before departure, we flagged a planned strike in Italy and adjusted the itinerary accordingly, so Michal could travel with more confidence and avoid unnecessary stress.
The result
At the end of the trip, Michal said it was the best journey he could have wished for and that he would recommend Railhop to all of his friends.

“I had never traveled across Europe by train before, and I was nervous about linking so many countries on my own. Railhop designed a route that felt genuinely scenic — the Bernina Express through Switzerland was unforgettable — and when a strike in Italy threatened the plan, my itinerary had already been adjusted before I left Edinburgh. It felt beautifully planned, not simply booked. It was the best journey I could have wished for, and I've already recommended Railhop to my friends.”

New York to Central Europe, smarter and cheaper

The challenge
Liz had already bought her Eurail Pass and had a clear idea of what she wanted to visit across Central Europe — but when she started planning the actual train connections, the process became stressful and frustrating.
The solution
Railhop took over the full connection planning and made only small changes to improve the travel experience. After carefully reviewing ticket prices, our expert recommended that Liz cancel the Eurail Pass and use regular tickets instead.
Smart adjustments
We guided Liz through the cancellation process and showed her how and where to buy the regular tickets for the trip — which turned out to be the much better option for her journey.
The result
Liz saved €415 per person, or €830 in total for two travelers over the full 10-day trip. The cost comparison: a 10-day 1st class Eurail Pass would have been €581; regular tickets for the full trip came to €165.

FAQ

Real questions travelers ask before a complex European rail trip.

From passes and reservations to support on the move — clear answers before you choose how much help you need.

Before you book Getting started with Railhop
What do I need to share before we start?+

Travel dates (or a rough window), starting point, destinations or must-see stops, budget range, travel pace, and who is traveling. The more context you give — night trains, scenic priorities, mobility needs — the sharper the plan.

How far in advance should I contact Railhop?+

For most trips, 3–8 weeks ahead works well. Complex multi-country routes, peak summer travel, or sleeper trains with limited availability are best planned earlier. If your trip is sooner, contact us anyway — we will tell you honestly what is still realistic.

I'm not from Europe — should I use Eurail or regular tickets?+

It depends on your route, countries, and how many travel days you need. Non-European residents typically use Eurail; European residents use Interrail — but a pass is not always the cheapest or simplest option. Railhop compares both before recommending a strategy.

Can Railhop help if I already planned part of my trip?+

Yes. Existing ideas, bookings, or partial plans can be refined into a better overall rail journey — we work with what you already have rather than starting from zero.

Is Eurail or Interrail always the best option?+

No. In some itineraries a pass is excellent, but in others regular tickets are cheaper or simpler. Railhop compares the options before recommending a strategy.

Building the route Designing your journey
What if my trip includes multiple countries?+

That is exactly where expert planning matters most. Multi-country journeys involve different booking systems, reservation rules, and connection risks that are easy to underestimate.

Can you help me choose the best scenic route?+

Yes. Scenic quality is part of the planning process, especially where several reasonable routing options exist — we weigh beauty against connection time and reservation requirements.

Can you plan night trains and sleeper routes?+

Yes. Nightjet and other sleeper services can save time and add atmosphere, but they require earlier booking and careful seat or couchette choices. We factor that into the route from the start.

Can you plan for families, groups, or slower travel pace?+

Absolutely. We adjust daily distance, connection times, and reservation needs for families with children, larger groups, or travelers who prefer fewer moves and more time in each place.

Before departure Tickets, reservations & checks
Are train tickets and seat reservations included in the package price?+

No. The Railhop fee covers planning and expert support only — not the cost of passes, tickets, or reservations. You always purchase those directly from operators. From Premium and VIP Care onward, we personally guide you step by step through the entire booking process — what to buy, where, and when. Basic includes the itinerary and recommendations; you book on your own.

Do I need seat reservations on European trains?+

Some trains require them, some strongly benefit from them, and some do not. Railhop identifies where reservations matter so you avoid unpleasant surprises — especially on high-speed, cross-border, and popular scenic lines.

What if there is a strike or major disruption?+

We monitor engineering works and known disruption risks before you depart. Premium and VIP Care clients receive alerts and revised guidance; VIP Care includes live help finding alternatives while you travel.

Do you help with delay compensation claims?+

Yes — included in Premium and VIP Care. If a qualifying delay occurs, we guide you through the EU rail passenger rights process and the paperwork different operators require.

On the move Support while you travel
Do you offer support during the journey?+

Premium includes pre-departure support and disruption alerts. VIP Care adds non-stop live assistance on travel days (9 AM–11 PM CET) — so when a missed connection or last-minute change hits, you reach a real person who knows your trip.

Practical details The fine print & everyday travel
What is the Railhop emergency kit?+

A practical set of backup guidance included with every package — key contacts, contingency routing notes, and clear steps for common disruption scenarios so you are not scrambling at the platform.

What is the tourist trap & fraud aware kit?+

Included with every package. Practical tips on avoiding common tourist traps, overpriced add-ons, and booking or payment scams around European rail travel — so you can spot red flags before you spend money or miss a connection.

Can you include scenic detours without making the trip exhausting?+

That is a core part of what we do — balancing memorable lines and viewpoints with realistic connection buffers and a pace that still feels like a holiday, not a marathon.

What if my plans change after you've built the itinerary?+

Small tweaks are often straightforward; bigger changes may need a route revision depending on your package and how close departure is. We will always tell you what can be adjusted and what it involves before you commit.

Do you plan hotel stops or only the rail legs?+

Railhop focuses on the rail journey — routes, connections, reservations, and on-trip rail support. We can suggest sensible overnight stops around your train plan, but accommodation booking is not part of the service.

Can you help me estimate the total budget for my trip?+

Yes. Beyond the Railhop planning fee, we outline expected pass or ticket costs, reservation fees, and any supplements (e.g. couchettes, seat fees on certain lines) so you have a realistic picture before you book.

Can you advise on luggage, bikes, or traveling with pets?+

We can. Luggage rules vary by operator; bikes often need reservations or are restricted on peak services; pets may require tickets or carrier rules depending on the country. Tell us your needs early and we build the route around them.

Is Railhop a good fit for first-time Interrail travelers?+

Very much so. First trips are where pass vs. ticket confusion, reservation surprises, and connection anxiety cause the most stress — exactly what Railhop is designed to remove before you reach the platform.

What is your cancellation or refund policy?+

If we have not yet started work on your plan, you can cancel for a full refund. Once planning is underway or delivered, refunds depend on how much work has been completed — we will always confirm the terms before payment.
